Does HLP-BP >=4.7 support SAP NW 7.30

Jump to solution

Dear HLP-team,

due to a SAP Netweaver migration planned:

from: SAP NW EHP 2, SP 9

to: SAP NW 7.30

in 2012 we want to know, whether the current or future HLP-BP does support the future coming version of SAP Netweaver. It would be helpful to know, whether the HLP-BP is officially certified for SAP NW 7.30.

An official SAP NW 7.30 portal platform is already relased in a GA version.

Please give us feedback.

Kind regards,

Holger King

Hi Holger,

the BP for FirstSpirit has been adapted and already release for SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3.

Please note that due to huge changes from SAP NW 7.0 and 7.3 this is a separate release! (Mainly: Different JVM, different deployment of DCs, changes in internal APIs)

Meaning you will have to deploy a new BP for FirstSpirit for 7.3 on your SAP NW Portal 7.3.

The first version was released on July 15th 2011. Latest was released yesterday 😉

Currently the version number for this release is 4.9 which should indicate that all features from 4.7 are included in this release. However, as mentioned before: This is a separate release from BP for FirstSpirit for 7.0 and likely the version numbers will drift apart.

Best regards,

Stefan Brauneis

Dear Stefan Brauneis,

thanx for your reply. There are some questions open regarding:

  1. might it be possible to run and deploy the HLP-BP solution on a SAP Netweaver Portal 7.3 EP-CORE having NO KM engine installed (waiving the defences of well-known HLP-BP functionalities like the FirstSpirit SEARCH integration?)
  2. is there a possibility to separate elements for the PCD (like the HLP-BP admin iView, etc.) and the KM content (created by the HLP-BP KM scheduler) so these nodes are stored on two separate physical hosts (a SAP Netweaver 7.3 portal maintaining PCD objects and a SAP Netweaver 7.02 instance handling the KM). Which consequences might occur?

Hi Holger King,

first some general explanations:

The BP for FirstSpirit consists basically of 3 components:

  1. BP for FirstSpirit (Core): Containing basic functionality and the Navigation Connector
  2. Search Component for FirstSpirit: Containing functionality needed to make content searchable (via KM and TREX)
  3. KMC Addon for FirstSpirit: Containing functionality to enable collaborative functions from SAP NetWeaver KM for the FirstSpirit content (like Subscriptions, Rating, Feedback)

Here are the answers to your questions:

  1. The BP for FirstSpirit (Core) cannot be installed on a SAP NetWeaver Portal without KM! It has a dependency to KM to manage Portal Favorites for end users which require SAP NetWeaver Portal KM.
  2. This would be possible: If you have a SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.3 (with KM) you can install the BP for FirstSpirit (Core) and deploy only the portal_navigation.xml files there. On the other system SAP NetWeaver 7.02 you must deploy all Components (BP for FirstSpirit (Core), Search Component for FirstSpirit, KMC Addon for FirstSpirit). There you only activate the portal_search.xml files.

I hope this gives you an idea of how it would work. In the details you would have to separate the activation of the xml files from the FirstSpirit projects and distribute them to different SAP NetWeaver Portals (which is possible but involves some effort).

On the other side of course the KM from the SAP NetWeaver 7.02 needs to be integrated to the SAP NetWeaver 7.3. And that would mean some template changes if you use the KMC Addon for FirstSpirit to create the correct links to those functions on the correct SAP NetWeaver Portal.

I hope this gives you an overview about the things to be considered and the steps involved.

Best regards,

Stefan Brauneis
