DG (Evidon) Now Supports Google Consent Mode V2!

Google Consent Mode V2 Introduction

We are excited to announce that Evidon, Crownpeak’s Consent Management Platform (CMP), now fully supports Google Consent Mode V2. This latest integration allows Crownpeak customers who use Google advertising products to easily comply with the latest privacy standards and seamlessly configure consent settings using default options.

To simplify setup, we’ve published a new Evidon CMP template in the Google Tag Manager (GTM) gallery, enabling quick and smooth integration. This update empowers website publishers to meet data privacy regulations more effectively while offering users greater transparency and control over their data.

With this integration, Crownpeak continues to prioritize user privacy and data protection, helping businesses enhance their compliance efforts and build trust with their audiences.

What is Google Consent Mode V2?

Google Consent Mode allows you to manage and communicate users' consent preferences for cookies or app identifiers to Google, managing consent for sending user data to Google for online advertising and personalized marketing. Version 2 builds upon Version 1 by offering more granular control over data collection and processing.

For businesses in the EU and EEA regions, implementing Consent Mode v2 is essential to continue using Google services for European users. This mode helps obtain explicit user consent for web tracking, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations such as GDPR. With Consent Mode, Google tags can determine whether a user has given consent for advertising and/or analytics purposes.

What’s New in Consent Mode V2?

Google Consent Mode v2 introduces several new parameters and features that enhance transparency and user control:

  • ad_user_data: Captures the user's consent preference for sending data to Google ad services.
  • ad_personalization: Determines whether the user has opted into remarketing and ad personalization.
  • ads_data_redaction: Ensures that when consent is not provided for ads-related data processing, Google automatically redacts ads-related data, reducing the data transmitted to the minimum necessary. This helps advertisers comply with data privacy laws by withholding or minimizing data collection when consent is not granted.

Basic vs. Advanced Consent Mode

Basic Consent Mode

Basic Consent Mode is the foundational setup that allows you to manage user consent for data collection and processing, ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR. Key features include:

  • Binary Consent Handling: Consent is either granted or denied, determining whether Google services fully activate or deactivate tracking and data collection.
  • Cookie Control: Basic management of cookies, enabling or disabling them based on user consent for essential and non-essential cookies.
  • Limited Customization: Standard controls without detailed options for different types of data or services.

Advanced Consent Mode

Advanced Consent Mode builds on the Basic setup, providing more granular control over data collection and processing. This mode is ideal for organizations that require detailed consent management and enhanced transparency. Key features include:

  • Granular Consent Parameters: Specify different levels of consent for activities like ad personalization, analytics, and remarketing.
  • Customizable Consent Experience: Tailor the consent experience to your site’s needs with detailed options and messaging for users.
  • Enhanced Privacy Controls: Utilize additional parameters like ad_user_data, ad_personalization, and ads_data_redaction to manage specific types of data collection.
  • Compliance with Regional Requirements: Ensure full compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA, designed for businesses operating in jurisdictions with strict data privacy laws.

Choosing the Right Mode

  • When to Use Basic Consent Mode: Choose Basic Consent Mode if your business requires simple compliance with general data protection laws, and your website’s data collection practices are straightforward.
  • When to Use Advanced Consent Mode: Opt for Advanced Consent Mode if your business operates in multiple regions with varying privacy regulations, or if you need to provide users with detailed control over specific types of data processing.
