How to configure VS Code (mac) external editing for site architect

Hi FS community,

I am trying to configure my workstation so I can edit template HTML, Forms, Rules, etc using my IDE (VS Code for mac) instead of using the Site Architect's text editor.

When I right click a template in Site Architect and go to Edit externally => html in the menu, it opens VS Code, but only shows a small file that looks like this instead of showing me the actual html I want to edit:

<head><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=/private/var/folders/p8/rxr1gch50gx79ky0lbmn9mpc0000gp/T/FirstSpirit_1719440566975/c9a7174b-5246-473f-801d-3b9eb87afe2a.xml"></head>

I have the same issue when trying to externally edit rules, forms, CSS media files, etc.

Does anyone know how to configure FirstSpirit or VS code properly so I can edit my template HTML directly in VS Code?

Thanks

Hello ndonato,

I never used a mac, so I can only give a hint for the standard FirstSpirit behavior. If no editor is defined for a file extension, the standard editor of the system is used. Based on the code you posted, I assume that this is a browser for the xml extension in your case.

Maybe you can solve the problem, if you define VS Code for the the file types "xml" and "txt"? (SiteArchitect->open project->Global settings->User settings)

Best regards
Holger
