EMBED tags must have an associated NOEMBED tag

Why is this important?

Embedding resources such as videos may not be accessible for to users with disabilities. This is why if you use the EMBED tag you must include an associated NOEMBED tag which provides an alternative view if the EMBED tag is not accessible.

How can I resolve this issue?

To embed external resources, the <embed> element can be used. As the content that is embedded can have a completely or mostly inaccessible format (for example, flash videos), the <noembed> element provides a way to specify an accessible alternative in case the <embed> element is not supported. Many use cases for the <embed> event have been replaced by native <audio> and <video> elements, which have built-in accessibility features.

What topics do this checkpoint affect?

  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 Level A, 1.1.1)

Can you explain how this checkpoint works?

This checkpoint examines the entire HTML source code of a page and reports if within thew <embed> tag it does not contain <noembed>
