What is Auto-Fix?

Auto-Fix is accessibility functionality that can be applied to your website, by implementing a simple line of code. The tool provides an experience for all visitors to your website that ensures the site will be accessible, regardless of their need or assistive technology.

Auto-Fix allows a website to meet the accessibility requirements as defined in WCAG. It provides the ability for website visitors to select UI and design-related accessibility adjustments based on their requirements. At the same time, the AI-powered background process handles optimization for screen-readers and keyboard navigation, automatically populating missing attributes such as image alt text.

How does Auto-Fix work?

There are two components of Crownpeak’s Auto-Fix solution that work together to make your website more accessible and meet the latest WCAG standards - the Accessibility Interface and the AI-Powered background process.

The Accessibility Interface is a session-based design and UI adjustment tool that makes accessibility modifications based on a user's individual needs. It is structured by disability profiles and enhancement features that allow visitors with different disabilities to easily select the profile that's best suited to their needs.

Users can choose a disability profile like “Vision Impaired Profile” and simultaneously activate all relevant adjustments. Alternatively, or in addition to the profiles, users can enable singular adjustments like increasing font sizes, change color contrasts, stop animations, and more.

The AI-Powered background process is responsible for handling the more complex accessibility adjustments such as screen-reader optimization and keyboard navigation.

The AI scans and analyse your website structure and makes adjustments to the code to assist screen readers and keyboard navigation. It learns the purpose and functions of each element such as pop-ups, links, images, forms, menus and buttons.

Auto-Fix also provides a built-in dictionary that allows users to identify unfamiliar words, abbreviations, and phrasing that they do not understand.

How do I get up and running with Auto-Fix on my website?

You need to approach the account manager or support team to add the domain under the Auto-Fix list. Once your domain is activated by our Support Team and you have added our single line of JS code to your site, The Auto-Fix Accessibility Interface will appear on your website. Auto-Fix scans and analyses your website using AI technologies, and applies all the required adjustments to become ADA and WCAG 2.1 compliant. This process takes up to 48 hours from installation.

The process of becoming compliant using Auto-Fix is very simple:

Step 1: Install our single line of JS code.

Step 2: Your website instantly displays the Accessibility Interface.

Step 3:  The AI-Powered background process starts scanning and analysing your website.

Step 4:  In 48 hours, our AI is finished, and your website is compliant.

Step 5:  The AI re-scans for new and revised content to process every 24 hours.

The Accessibility Interface solves 30% of ADA and WCAG requirements immediately. This is mostly UI and design features such as sizing, colours, and spacing.

The remaining 70% are solved within 48 hours, by our AI that runs in the background and adjusts your website, to make it operable using a screen reader (for visually impaired people) and the Keyboard (for people with motor impairment).

The AI process includes several solutions: ALT (alternate text) attribute creation for images using image recognition and OCR technologies, form label creation and handling link/button icons using a contextual understanding.

Can Auto-Fix be customised to match my website’s design?

The Auto-Fix interface is fully customizable and can be easily adapted to your website's own design and branding. This includes adjustments to colours, icons, display and position on your website.

Do subdomains need to be set up separately?

Yes, subdomains are considered separate domains and will need to be set up as such. For example, website.com and sub.website.com would require both to be set up separately and would be counted as 2 domains.

Can the user update the Auto-Fix accessibility statement?

Yes. The default Auto-Fix accessibility statement will be served when a user clicks on “Statement” in the Accessibility Interface. If you want to present your own customized version, you can create a webpage with your accessibility statement and update the “Statement” button to link to it.

Will Auto-Fix impact other website users?

Auto-Fix will not change a thing for most users. It will only be activated when turned on via the interface (or a Screen-reader if the user is blind), as an overlay to your website, and only to the user’s specific session. Therefore, It won't affect your design, UI, or performance at all.

Does Auto-Fix remember user preferences?

Yes, Auto-Fix locally stores user preferences so when they return to the site from the same browser, their preferences will already be set.
