Screen orientation should not be locked

Why is this important?

Some users may have their devices mounted in a fixed orientation (e.g. on the arm of a power wheelchair). Websites need to support both orientations and not restrict the orientation of the web page so that these users would be able to access the website properly.

How can I resolve this issue?

Do not lock the orientation of web pages to only portrait or landscape mode.

What topics do this checkpoint affect?

  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 Level A, SC 1.3.4)

Can you explain how this checkpoint works?

This checkpoint will flag all pages that include one of the following code: screen.lockOrientation, screen.mozLockOrientation, screen.msLockOrientation
